About Us

Welcome to Futbol Land, where our passion for women’s football transcends boundaries and inspires change.

I’m Cissy, Captain of the Team at Futbol Land LLC, and my journey into this world of women’s football began as a personal passion, but it has since evolved into a profound commitment to fostering positive change.

As a former college goalkeeper, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the sport of soccer (more commonly referred to as football). However, it wasn’t until I witnessed the events surrounding the 2019 World Cup that my enthusiasm for women’s football truly ignited. Those events brought to light a massive convergence of social movements that those players had the courage to address. I started to dig deeper into its history and learned that it had been a much longer and harder-fought battle for women than I or the most realized. Progress has been made, but there is so much more work to do still.

I grew up watching the ’99er’s, and I even had the opportunity to attend the 1999 Women’s World Cup Final at the Rose Bowl. I wanted my daughters to understand the immense impact the ’99ers had on female players in the USA and around the world. When I learned about the stark disparities in pay, revenue, investment, facilities, travel, nutrition, and nearly every aspect of the game, I felt compelled to take action. If I was going to spend my money, it would be to support this sport and the courageous women who are championing it.

This beautiful game has taken me on wonderful adventures, allowing me to witness its power firsthand by attending games and immersing myself in the vibrant community it has created. It’s more than just a sport; it’s a platform for change, and it’s the thread that has woven the tapestry of our family together.

My weekends, like many other parents out there, are spent driving to and from different fields, sitting on the sidelines cheering on my daughters, and bringing team snacks for the kids to enjoy. Amazingly enough, after having 4 back surgeries, I’m still playing in a women’s league on Sundays where my daughters get to watch their momma get out on the pitch and enjoy running around with friends.

After I made the decision to homeschool my daughters, I found opportunities to teach them about the importance of women’s civil rights and the ongoing struggle for equal pay. Through this journey, I’ve been able to instill in them the values of equality, resilience, and the belief that there are women heroes worth looking up to, both on and off the field.

During the 2023 World Cup, I sprinkled football throughout our homeschool curriculum. The inclusive environment of this sport has not only enriched our lives but also introduced us to incredible individuals from all corners of the globe. We’ve met people of diverse ethnicities, races, religions, and cultures who share our passion and vision for a more inclusive and equitable world.

One of the projects we worked on for homeschool was creating a board game based on football. The girls wanted to play it with some friends they frequently see at San Diego Wave FC games. The kids rolled the dice, celebrated every goal, agonized hitting the post, and even wished for more extra time while playing the board game. After playing the home-made version with friends and family, it was an unanimous decision to share Futbol Land with everyone.

At Futbol Land, we celebrate the transformative power of football and aim to share our experiences, insights, and the stories of remarkable players who continue to inspire us. Join us on this journey as we explore the multifaceted world of the game and work towards a future where equality is the norm, both on and off the pitch and in “The Beautiful Board Game”.
